A Swaddle inspired by the Heavenly Mother
One of the first things we do when a baby is born is snuggle our precious one in a blanket. We swaddle our little royals with the softest muslin to help them feel secure, warm, and establish the reassurance of “home”. While we look for the physical quality of the blanket – one that is the softest, gentlest, and safest; created from breathable, organic fabrics, we also search for the loveliest, and consider patterns and colors for their beauty and meaning. As kids grow, swaddles become dresses and superhero capes, forts, blankets at parks and cover-ups at beaches, respite from the hot sun, and much more. At the end of the day, a well-loved swaddle reverts to the snuggliest bedtime companion. We’ve always thought: a blankie that spends so much time with a child ought to be as meaningful as it is beautiful and functional.
This is why we created swaddle blankets that are not only best made, but also express a spiritual dimension. Our dream is a blanket that your baby will want to sleep, play and snuggle in, from the time they’re newborn into childhood, that will also be a constant reminder to each sweet child of the loving reality our eyes often fail to see – that their guardian angels and saints, and especially our Heavenly Mother, are watching over them, wrapping them in love and care, and that each of them is a little royal child of a loving King, who made them good and wants them to be happy.
Bamboo is the silkiest, softest and most anti-microbial and temperature controlling fabric that can touch a baby’s skin. Although bamboo can sometimes be blended with cotton for durability and pigment retention, we chose this time to keep them 100% bamboo, because we think you will love its luscious feel, wellness properties, and sustainability just as it is, pure and organic. For longevity, machine wash your bamboo swaddle cold with like colors, and if you dry it, go easy on temperatures. Some fading is natural with organic materials and pigments, but the benefit is the one of the coziest and healthiest swaddles for your Little Royal.
A MOTHER’S BLUSH
This meticulously hand-illustrated swaddle in a delicate floral pattern, subtly reflecting the pregnancy gown of Our Lady of Guadalupe, is perfect for enveloping your newborn in safety, warmth, and the tenderness of motherly love. Generously-sized and made of luxuriously-soft bamboo muslin, it invites parents, grandparents, godparents, family and friends to enter into peaceful trust in the heavenly care of their baby, particularly with an eye and heart cast lovingly toward the Heavenly Mother and asking her protection, who watches over all of her children.
The glyph and jasmine flower pattern is one chosen by Our Lady of Guadalupe in homage to the native Aztec princesses and goddesses of the era. During tumultuous colonial years in Mexico, she appeared to native Juan Diego and promised to “give all my love, compassion, help and protection to all who call upon me for help”. She poured out her motherly heart in tender words in his native language:
“Am I not here, I who am your Mother?
Are you not under my shadow and protection?
Are you not in the folds of my mantle?”
Juan Diego was shocked to find a cold winter hill growing lush with Castilian roses, which she instructed him to pick and put in his cloak, or tilma. He opened the tilma full of freshly picked roses to the bishop of the city, and as the brilliant Castilian roses fell out onto the floor, everyone gasped, for a wondrous image of the Madonna was imprinted on the simple tilma. This perfectly intact image still hangs in the cathedral dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, Mexico.
The same Mother who wrapped her holy infant in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, now wraps her mantle around each heart of today, and lovingly asks, “Are you not in the folds of my mantle?”
